The project extends between Salalah and Thumrait and is conceived as a dedicated heavy-vehicle corridor serving truck and freight movements. The study focused on quantifying existing traffic demand, identifying origin–destination movement patterns, and forecasting future traffic volumes for passenger and freight vehicles. The assessment considered peak- hour demand, daily traffic variation, vehicle composition, and growth trends influenced by urban expansion, economic development, logistics activity, and tourism growth. A key component was the evaluation of diversion potential from existing routes to determine benefits in travel distance, journey time, congestion reduction, and vehicle operating cost.
