The study focused on evaluating existing and future traffic conditions, identifying origin–destination movement patterns, and forecasting passenger and freight traffic demand along the proposed corridor. The assessment considered peak-hour demand, daily traffic variation, vehicle composition, and growth trends influenced by urban expansion, economic development, logistics activity, and tourism growth. A key part of the study was the evaluation of traffic diversion potential from existing routes, particularly Sultan Thuwayni bin Said Road, to determine potential benefits in travel distance, journey time, congestion reduction, vehicle operating cost, reliability, safety, and network resilience.
