Traffic Impact Assessment of Wadi Dawkah Visitor Experience Center

Axiom prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment for the Wadi Dawkah Visitor Experience Center, located within Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Oman’s Dhofar region. The site is internationally recognized for its ancient frankincense trees, Boswellia sacra, and its cultural and historical importance, with frankincense traditionally known as the “Gold of the Desert.”

The study evaluated the effects of increased visitor traffic on the surrounding transportation system and supported the project’s alignment with Oman Vision 2040, sustainable tourism, and heritage preservation objectives. The assessment considered traffic volume, congestion, safety, accessibility, parking demand, access routes, signage, and visitor circulation. The study provided recommendations to optimize road layouts, improve parking and access arrangements, enhance visitor experience, and preserve the site’s cultural and environmental integrity.
